Who we are
My First Home Loan (myfirsthomeloan.co.nz) is a home loan readiness check and referral service operated as a sole trader business in New Zealand. For anything privacy related, including access, correction or deletion requests, contact privacy@myfirsthomeloan.co.nz.
The short version
Your readiness check answers are stored on your own device, not on our servers. They are only shared if you complete the check and press the share button. We collect standard analytics about how the site is used, and we take our obligations under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its 13 Information Privacy Principles seriously.
Information stored on your device
As you work through the readiness check, your answers (household details, income, living costs, debts, deposit and where you want to buy) are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. This information is not transmitted to us or anyone else while you complete the check. You can delete it at any time using the "Clear my data" button on the results screen, or by clearing your browser's site data.
Information we collect when you share your profile
If you complete the check and choose to share your profile with an adviser, we collect and pass on:
- Your name, email address and mobile number
- Your readiness profile: the answers you gave and the estimated result
This information goes to our partner mortgage adviser for one purpose: contacting you about your first home loan and helping you with next steps. We may retain a copy to operate the referral relationship, for example confirming which referrals were made. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone other than the partner adviser.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, we use analytics to understand how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and how people move through the check. This is aggregate usage data, not the financial details you enter, which stay on your device as described above.
Third-party platforms
- Google Analytics 4 (GA4): collects usage data such as pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type, and interactions like starting or completing the check. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Vercel: hosts this website and processes standard server logs such as IP addresses. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
Overseas disclosure
Google and Vercel are US-based companies, so analytics and hosting data may be processed outside New Zealand. Where information is disclosed overseas, we rely on providers that are subject to privacy safeguards comparable to the Privacy Act 2020, in line with Information Privacy Principle 12.
How long we keep information
Information on your device stays there until you delete it. If you share your profile, the partner adviser holds it under their own privacy policy, and we keep referral records only as long as needed to operate the service and meet legal obligations, then delete them.
Security
Shared information is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). We limit access to referral information to the people who need it to operate the service.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can:
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct it if it is wrong
- Ask us to delete it
Email privacy@myfirsthomeloan.co.nz and we will respond within 20 working days. If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
